Seven Winters – Memories of a Dublin Childhood [Tipped-in is a signed letter by Elizabeth Bowen to a Captain Hobart in which she thanks Captain Hobart for his charming letter about her book “Seven Winters” – Hobart has obviously lived in Herbert Place and obviously wrote her from West Africa in 1944. Elizabeth Bowen reflects in her answer on the content of Hobart’s letter with some melancholy: “How amusing that you should have lived in No.14 Herbert Place […] It is a coincidence, too, that you should have been to one of those two Hunt Balls at Bowen’s Court. How I wish, as we all do, that those days could come back again. With all good wishes, Yours sincerely, Elizabeth Bowen”]
