A really beautiful collection of Vignettes of famous Copenhagen landmarks surrounding two wonderful panoramic views of the city as seen from Frederiksberg and Frekroner. The large (39cm x 25.5 cm) view of Copenhagen from Frederiksberg is the centre-piece and shows the rooftops, spires, windmills and smoking stacks of the city in the background with a more pastoral scene of cows and finely-attired leisurely people enjoying the open spaces of tree-enclosed parkland. A game of some description is taking place in the field as the contented bovines look on. The smaller port view from Frekroner shows rowboats, sail- and steamships afloat with the city in the background. Both scenes leave the viewer with the impression of a peaceful, clean city at ease with itself and kindly situated in its natural environment. The wafting smoke from the chimney and the dark plume of exhaust fuming from the ship’s engine are harbingers of the industrial age to come.
The vignette from the lower left are as follows (clockwise): Ruin of Marmorkirken; Frederiksberg Slot; Alhambra; Börsen; Universitetet; Almalienborg; Von Frelsers Kirke; Raadhuset; Fine Kirke; Kongens Nytorv; Thorvaldsens Museum; Christiansborg Slot; Orlogs Havn; Runde Taarn and; Rosenborg Slot.
Finely decorative bordering with the coat-of-arms of Copenhagen crowning the ornate display.
