Very good condition with only minor signs of external wear. The Frontispiece restored and draped to modern paper. Interior clean and in excellent condition. Extremely scarce publication from the library of Daniel Conner (Connerville / Manch House), even though there is no sign of it like a bookplate etc.

Engraved portrait-frontispiece of Sir Anthony Hart, Knight, Lord High Chancellor of Ireland [with a few caricatural corrections in contemporary ink (see image)], XXIV, 586 pages. Hardcover / Original half leather of the early 19th century with original spinelabel. Slightly dusty and and the binding a little stronger rubbed. Interior still very good with some browning to corners of the bookblock and some occasional foxing. Very rare, original edition with several appearances of Daniel O’Connell as defender and speaker !

Original Hardcover / Full 18th century calf with new spine-label. The binding firm and in excellent condition. Important: Several strong puncture – wounds to the first 54 and last 60 pages (without loss of text). Some occasional staining but text overall clean. A very rare Sarah Cotter print from 18th century Dublin. Although no sign of it, the book came from the library of Daniel Conner (Connerville / Manch House).

Provenance: From the library of Edward Supple [Supple’s Court near Castlemartyr, County Cork], with the name “Ed Supple” in ink to the titlepages of each Volume. / Subsequently from the library of Daniel Conner.

19. Rare Classic of Botanical Illustration 19th century – Twining, Elizabeth.

Illustrations of the Natural Orders of Plants With Groups and Descriptions. [With 160 full-page chromolithographic plates in colour].

Original Sampson Low Edition – Reduced from the Original Folio Edition. Two Volumes (complete set). London, Sampson Low, Son and Marston, 1868. Slim-Quarto (17 cm x 25 cm). Volume I: XII, 80 plates / Volume II: [6], 80 plates. Both Volumes include the tissue-guards for protecting the plates and all corresponding explanatory text and Index is present. Hardcover / Original publisher’s half-leather with gilt lettering and ornament on spine. One of the earliest and rarest publications with chromolithographic botanical illustrations. Excellent condition besides some mild, faded dampstains to some plates. Important: These bindings are usually broken, which is NOT the case here. While the book came from the library of Daniel Conner (Connerville / Manch House), the book belonged to Henrietta L. Conner [Inscribed by Sophia Perry Hornik to Henrietta L. Conner in 1890].

Hardcover / Modern half-leather with gilt lettering and spinelable. Bound to style of the 17th century by an english masterbindery, which made sure to preserve the original endpapers and pastedowns. An excellent restoration with preserved patina of this scarce work. The titlepage with a professional repair. Although no sign of it, this book came from the library of Daniel Conner (Manch House). Name of another former owner to pastedown: “Thomas Davis – his book , October 21, 1790”. Extremely rare !
