Castletown House or Castletown Cox as it is locally known, and lands has changed hands many times since the 17th Century until being bought by George Magan around 1989/91 from one Brian de Breffny, publisher and editor of ‘The Houses of Ireland’, ‘Ireland, a Cultural Encyclopedia’ and the ‘Irish Arts Review’.

The extensive list of items and artifacts in this publication reflect it’s long and interesting history in pictures with a brief written history of the house. Interestingly it has been the source of some controversy and misfortune for Mr. Magan in 2017-2019 resulting in a courtcase and eviction. It’s colouful history continues…

A facinating record of Irish and Anglo-Irish history spanning five hundred years.
