[Ray Riling’s Bibliography “Guns and Shooting” – No. 1114: The Modern Sportsman’s Gund and Rifle. Volume I – Game and Wildfowl Guns. Volume II – The Sporting Rifle, Match Rifle and Revolver. Riling writes: “The first Volume was written after the author had served for nearly a quarter of a century as Editor of the “Field” and with the benefit of W.W.Greener’s “The Gun and its Development” at hand. The author regards the advantage but states, “but it must be borne in mind that men actively engaged in business like Mr.Greener, have so concentrated their attention on their own improvements that they overlook what others are doing around them”. The author apologizes in the preface to Vol. II for the long delay in preparing his material for the press, and thus causing the second volume to be held back two years. More accuracy and precision of detail then in the author’s “The Shot-Gun and Sporting Rifle”]
