Manuscript letter signed (MLS) from J.H.Luke on Westinghouse Stationery, to his son Harry Charles Lukach (later Sir Harry Luke): “My dear Harry, Just a hurried line to say that I agree your remaining in Austria Hungary until the arrival of Grandfather….You say nothing about the [?] book – I hope you are putting your best effort into this your first literary work. Am terribly busy & off to Bussa [Nigeria] tomorrow [Westinghouse had business in Nigeria]. Love to all – Your affectionate Father J.H.L.”
[This item is part of the Sir Harry Luke – Archive / Collection]. Paris, Societe Anonyme Westinghouse, 1907. Octavo. Two – page letter with original envelope, addressed to “H.C.Lukach Esq. c/o Wm [William] de Ormody Esq. – Redoutenplatz [later Vigadó Square] – Budapest, Hungary”. From Sir Harry Luke’s personal Library.
Interesting letter from Luke’s father in which we learn about the very “first literary work” of Sir Harry Luke. Also interesting is the fact this is the first item in the Luke collection which documents Luke’s relation to uncle Vilmos [that is “Vilmos Ormody de Ormod”, also “William de Ormody …..one of the most important insurance specialists of his time. Immediately after his secondary school education, he joined the First Hungarian General Insurance Company, serving as an officer for nearly 40 years, then as its CEO for 24 years, and finally as its president for a decade until his death at the age of 94. He is credited with a number of initiatives and charitable foundations, mainly for the welfare of civil servants. For his work in the field of economics, he was made a nobleman with the title of Orvald in 1897 and a baron in 1906, and was made a member of the House of Lords” (Source: Article by Gábor Tamás for tozsdemuzeum.].
