The theme of this adventure novel is the great Soviet drive to transform the economy of Siberia and to fortify the country against Japanese aggression. When a call is issued in Moscow for volunteers to carry out this task, many Communists enroll. Planes fly eastward; voices span the ether; men and machines are set to work to make the wilderness yield its riches. The lonely line of the Amur, between Siberia and Japan, is converted into a fortified zone, and behind this line springs up an Eastern Army, prepared for war with the fascist foe.
