This extremely rare publication is a key-publication of Irish Genealogy and has set new standards of genealogical research. In the Obituary for Rosemary ffolliott, the Irish Times wrote in 2009: “In 1958, when she was 23 years of age, Rosemary ffolliott compiled “The Pooles of Mayfield”, a history of Settler Families in the Cork area. The publication of this Munster gentry, which some who appeared in it described as “the Dead Sea Scrolls”, initiated a career in the difficult field of Irish genealogy, made the more arduous by the destruction of records at the Four Courts. Her dedication to a discipline that had been considered vague, imprecise and colourful, had an acknowledged effect in raising the standards of genealogy in Ireland. Her research methods were meticulous and she is remembered as a genius in the use of the Registry of Deeds in Henrietta Street. In 1966 she became a Fellow of the Irish Genealogical Research Society, the first woman to be recognised in this way.” The publication is an important source for the History of Family-Connections for the two Irish Country-House-Libraries we currently have on offer: “The Richard Meade Collection (Ballymartle)” and “The Danile Conner – Collection (Connerville and Manch House)”. Including a lenghty section mentioning the Irish Subscribers to this Dictionary with name and town. Hardcover / Original 18th century full leather with original, red spine-label with gilt lettering. In protective Mylar. Binding rubbed and with some minor loss to leather. The binding firm and strong and endpapers and pastdeowns intact and NOT cracked ! Small signs of a faded dampstain without any consequence to the very good condition throughout. One page with a tear (Letter G). The unpaginated section was collated as complete.

In protective Mylar. New endpaper to Volume I. Minor wormhole-damage to pastedown and a few pages only. Binding slightly rubbed but firm and strong. Very good condition with only minor signs of wear. This set, with the exceptionally interesting provenance, does not only contain Trevor’s signature but also his bookplate and some doodling of a portrait of an 18th or 19th century figurehead.

Armorial Binding from the library of Ruth Corker with manuscript entries regarding the History of family-relations and marriage of Ruth Corker (born Falkiner) of St.Stephen’s Green in Dublin during the years 1693 – 1760. The armorial binding is containing the rare fifth edition of the important Prayer – Guide by english Theologian, Hymn-writer and Logician, Isaac Watts: “A Guide to Prayer : Or A Free and Rational Account of the Gift, Grace and Spirit of Prayer; With plain Directions how every Christian may attain them”.

New spine-label. Ruth Corker’s Library-stamp verso the titlepage. This used to be Ruth Corker’s mother’s book prior to her own and the name Mary Falkiner is written in ink on top of the Preface-page. Manuscript entry “Ruth Corker Her Book 1731” on halftitle with several entries informing on marriages and relationships within the Falkiner and Corker and Robinson – family added obviousy by a later relative (Ruth Robinson, who was married to Robert Robinson). Excellent condition with only minor signs of wear.
