1. Birch, Thomas.

An Inquiry into the Share which King Charles I had in the transactions of the Earl of Glamorgan, afterwards Marquis of Worcester, for bringing over a Body of Irish Rebels to assist that King, in the Years 1645 and 1646. In which Mr.Carte’s imperfect Account of that Affair, and his Use of the MS. Memoirs of the Pope’s Nuncio Rinuccini, are impartially considered. The whole drawn up from the Best Authorities, Printed and Manuscript. The Second Edition; to which is added an Appendix, containing several Letters of the King to the Earl of Glamorgan, from the Originals in the Harleian Library of Manuscripts.

Dublin, J.Esdall, 1754. 17,3 cm x 11 cm. VIII, pages XVII -XXIII, 268 pages. [Lacking the list of Subscribers (IX – XII) and Start of Content-pages (XIII-XVI)]. Later, 19th century Hardcover / Half – leather with gilt lettering and ornament to spine. Good condition with only minor signs of external wear. Spine slightly damaged and broken. Bookblock tight and clean besides a faded dampstain and some lesions to outer margiuns of several pages. Needs some attention from a bookbinder. Exlibris / Bookplate of Henry J.B.Clements on pastedown [Clements was landowner in County Mayo and County Galway (Rosshill House connection)].

The Fifth Edition very much enlarged. London, Printed for J.R.for Nat. Crouch at the Bell in the Poultry, near Cheapside, 1684. Duodecimo. Frontispice, [2], 231, [3] pages. With four ful-page woodcuts (including Frontispice) showing historical events, beheadings etc. Page 227 misprinted as page 229. LAst three pages are “Delights for the Ingenious – Books printed for N. Crouch”. Original full leather-covered boards. Binding in very poor condition with larger parts of the leather missing. Minor lesions to Frontispice and some papes to front and rear. Extremely rare !

From the library of Richard Meade (Ballymartle), with his Exlibris / Bookplate to pastedown of Volume One and the name of John Meade to the titlepage of Volume II. Faded dampstain only to the endpapers of Volume I / Minor wormhole-damage to the endpaper and titlepage of Volume II. Otherwise in very good and firm condition. A very rare and significant publication.

Armorial Binding from the library of Ruth Corker with manuscript entries regarding the History of family-relations and marriage of Ruth Corker (born Falkiner) of St.Stephen’s Green in Dublin during the years 1693 – 1760. The armorial binding is containing the rare fifth edition of the important Prayer – Guide by english Theologian, Hymn-writer and Logician, Isaac Watts: “A Guide to Prayer : Or A Free and Rational Account of the Gift, Grace and Spirit of Prayer; With plain Directions how every Christian may attain them”.

The Fifth Edition. London, Printed for Emanuel Matthews, 1730. Small Octavo. [5], 156, [1] pages. Hardcover / Original, early 18th century full-leather with armorial embossing to both boards. New spine-label. Ruth Corker’s Library-stamp verso the titlepage. This used to be Ruth Corker’s mother’s book prior to her own and the name Mary Falkiner is written in ink on top of the Preface-page. Manuscript entry “Ruth Corker Her Book 1731” on halftitle with several entries informing on marriages and relationships within the Falkiner and Corker and Robinson – family added obviousy by a later relative (Ruth Robinson, who was married to Robert Robinson). Excellent condition with only minor signs of wear.

Hardcover / Stunning, original 18th century full calf with gilt lettering and original spine-labels. Marbled Endpapers matched with marbled edges all around. Strengthened and restored bindings in splendid and firm condition. Minor, repaired tear to titlepage of Volume I only. The text in excellent, very clean condition (which is unusual for this set). Very Rare in this condition !
