Hardcover / Contemporary full calf with blindstamped ornament tooled along spine. Binding stronger rubbed and upper spine slightly damaged; but the volume firm and in very good condition. Small cutout to endpaper. Smaller, faded dampstain from page 247 onwards. Dampstain to both endpapers. Text otherwise clean and bright ! Name of William L. Webb in ink on titlepage.

Pagination: Volume I (contains Numbers I, II, III, IV): Frontispiece-Portrait, XIV, [6 unnumbered pages of “Contents”], 636 pages, [2] pages with the contents-page misbound [2], and 24 pages on “The Brehon Laws of Ireland” to the rear of the Volume. Volume I includes three illustrations (including the Large Folding-Map of Meath)/ Volume II (contains Numbers V, VI, VII, VIII, IX): 562 pages and 10 illustrations (including the Large Folding-Plan of the City of Kilkenny) / Volume III (contains Numbers X, XI, XII): LXX, 682 pages with one illustration (being the Large Fold-Out-Map of “Antient Ireland” by William Beauford) and VI Tables on two large sheets in the rear of the Volume (containing Orthography/Names of Numbers in different Languages, Names of Numbers of some of the Indians of America etc. etc. compared to the antient Irish) / Volume IV (contains Number XIII of Collectanea de Rebus Hibernicis and “A Vindication of the Ancient History of Ireland” by Charles Vallancey”): LX, 161 pages (being the end of Number XIII), plus Pagination for “The Vindication of the Ancient History of Ireland”: Frontispiece-Map of Europe and Asia, XLVIII, 551 pages, followed by 16 unnumbered pages of an Index for “The Ancient History of Ireland”, followed by X (10) Plates (mainly fold-out plates with numerous illustrations for the “Ancient History of Ireland”, aslo included is a text-illustration “Inscription in the Cave of New Grange (page 212). / Volume V of Collectanea de Rebus Hibernicis: 368 pages plus Hardcover / Original 19th century full-leather with gilt lettering and ornament to spine. Very good condition with only minor signs of wear. Spine of Volume Three is coming apart. From the library of Cork Antiquarian Abraham Abell, with an inscription and original manuscript letter by his friend and “Brother Antiquarian”, John Bennett, 9 Academy St., 18th September, 1841.

Hardcover / Original, 18th century full-leather with gilt lettering and ornament on spine. Binding very firm and only slightly bumped and rubbed. Overall in a very good condition with some signs of external wear. With the name “John Morrison” on the titlepage [possibly the 18th century – Architect John Morrison from Midleton, with a connection to Castlemartyr]. This book came subsequently from the Library of Daniel Conner, Connerville / Bandon / Manch House in which also a set of Buffon, from the library of Richard Boyle Bernard, Dean of Leighlin and MP for Bandon Bridge was included.

Three Volumes bound in Two (complete set). [Paris], 1726. Small-Octavo (10 cm x 16 cm). 200, 200, 224 pages. Hardcover / Original 18th century leather with gilt lettering on spine. New Spine-Label applied to Volume I. Both Volumes housed in a bespoke built Solander Box. Some minor rubbing. Provenance: From the library of a member of the 1798 Rebellion under Wolfe Tone, William Livingston Webb, with Webb’s name in ink to the titlepage of Volume I and his name also to the first page of Volume II. Webb notes in Volume two that he purchased the books in Lille. While other Protestant Leaders of the Rebellion were hanged, William Livingston Webb was exiled. With a manuscript-poem in english and remarks in french, citing “Voltaire” to rear endpaper of Volume II: “Les Tome auteur n’art de l’esprit qui autart qu’il enfant, ny le recherchant jamais pensent avec priment avec clarte” (?) – Voltaire (?).

Together with an Account of The Extent, produce, Revenue, Forces, Trade, Manufacturer, Religions &c. of the several Countries and of the Battles, Sieges and other Transactions that have sendered them remarkable. To which is prefixed a copious Introduction to Geography. The whole calculated to explain the Occurences in Modern History. Illustrated with four large and accurate Maps of Europe, Asia, Africa and America (only the Map of Asia is present: “New & Correct Map of Asia – Drawn from the latest and best Authorities by J. Gibson”). The Second Edition, in which several necessary Corrections and Material Additions have been made; the Geography of Ireland has been revised and enlarged; about four hundred entire new Articles have been added, chiefly relative to North America and Ireland, none of which are contained in the London Impression, and comprising in the whole, many thousand Places more than any other Gazzetteer; Whereby it is rendered the largest, cheapest, and most compleat Work of the Kind extant.

Including 6 pages of “Books, printed for and sold by Peter Wilson, in Dame-Street”. Original Hardcover (full calf on five raised bands with original spinelabel intact). Half a page in chapter “M” torn out. Faint dampstain throughout. Otherwise in very good condition. Binding rubbed and bumped on the corners but absolutely firm and tight. Minor traces of foxing and staining only. Name of preowner in 17th or 18th century ink on endpaper: “Daniel Eugene MacNamara”. Very rare Dublin Edition of this publication with a full-page recommendation of the famous Lexicographer Benjamin Martin.
