Including the original endpapers and the original half-title. Front free endpaper and halftitle with dampstain to lower corner only. Dampstain in lower corner of the titlepage only faintly present. One of the rarest titles of Irish Literature and one of the rarest, early gothic-novels / horror-novels. Absolutely scarce and in excellent condition after the beautiful restoration.

Hardcover / Professionally restored and decoratively rebound in full leather with new endpapers and spinelabels. This important publication comes from the eminent libraries of Indiana State Senator Calvin Fletcher and subsequently his son, educationalist, senator and Civil War Surgeon, William Baldwin Fletcher. With some annotations in the Index, highlighting for example the chapter referring to Montesquieu’s view on “Corruption” [″Of the corruption of the principles of the three governments”]. William Baldwin Fletcher, who inherited the book from his father, subsequently gifted it to a close friend of his: “Presented to Chas M O’Brien by his friend W.B.Fletcher”. Some professional paper-restoration and otherwise a very good condition with some minor signs of wear only.

Important: Several strong puncture – wounds to the first 54 and last 60 pages (without loss of text). Some occasional staining but text overall clean. A very rare Sarah Cotter print from 18th century Dublin. Although no sign of it, the book came from the library of Daniel Conner (Connerville / Manch House).
