Illustrated and complete with 17 portraits of courtyard and apparatus and 47 plates, engraved on wood, reproducing a total of hundreds of coats of arms with coats, crests, lambrequins, helmets and coins. Very many coats of arms in the 2-columned text. Hardcover / Original 18th-century binding with modern restauration (rebacked) to the highest standards. Superior example of this publication ! Unusually excellent condition with only very minor signs of external wear. Frontispiece and last page of the work with minor crease. Two corners torn (two pages following the title), corner of page 185 torn and page 92 of the second part of the book with longer lesion within text (no loss of text). Endpapers and pastedown with some minor spotting. All these descriptions of faults sound worse than they are. Interior text, plates and portraits overall in unbelievably clean and excellent condition. Name of pre-owner in ink on title and verso frontispiece (″J.Stilwell”).

Original handcoloured engraving / Vintage Mercator Map. Amsterdam, Gerardum Mercatorum / J.Hondius, c. 1595-1602. The Map measures: 55.3 cm wide x 45.3 cm high. Extraordinary, original late 16th or early 17th century Map by Mercator with Irelands south in beautiful hand-coloured outline. Wide margins with two minor lesions to the outer margins (Map itself not affected). A Dream of a Map and the best condition and original colouring of this Map we have ever seen.

Beautiful, recent Hardcover / Modern half-leather with gilt lettering on spine and marbled, paper-covered boards. New endpapers. Bookblock and interior in very good and firm condition. Faded dampstain to some of the text only. Very rare and important renaissance-publication.

Frontispiece, [7], 548 pages plus 4 pages oaf a Catalogue of “Books – Printed for and Sold by Luke Meredith, at the Star in St.Paul’s Churchyard” plus [8] pages “Table”. Hardcover / Original 17th century full leather with ornament to boards and new, modern spine-label and new endpapers. The Volume is now in Collector’s Mylar. Minor wormhole-damage to the frontispiece, titlepage and the first to pages. Some very minor browning from a very faint dampstain. Otherwise in very good condition after a thorough restoration. Although no sign of it, this book came from the library of Richard Meade (Ballymartle).

One of the previous owners has written his initials “GWH” in red ink verso the titlepage. Pastedown with armorial Bookplate / Exlibris of Scottish statesman, the Right Honorable Patrick Hume, Earl of Marchmont, Viscount of Blasonberry, Lord Polwarth of Polwarth & Lord High Chancellorof Scotland – [Bookplate dated at 1702 – Motto: “Fides Probata Coronat” – “True to the End”]. Very good condition with only minor signs of external wear. Minor lesion/tear to outer margins of page 461. With manuscript entries by the preowner to the top of each page, detailing each page for easier access into sections of countries (Germany, Poland, France, Spain, Britain, Rome, Sweden etc.). This book is rare; but with the excellent provenance from the library of Sir Patrick Hume, an even more important and desirable publication.
