[No.158 of only 200 Signed copies of the rare, Limited Edition]. Kiel, Nieswand Verlag, 1990. Large Folio (48 cm x 34.5 cm). 17 full-page-photographs on heavy archival paper. With a hidden chapter in the rear: “Bob Willoughby’s favourite Tunes”. Original Hardcover (spine comprises of a brass tube). Excellent condition with minor signs of exceptional condition. The publication was very successful and experienced a second, revised edition which was not signed. This first, limited edition, signed by the groundbreaking jazz-photographer Bob Willoughby, is exceedingly scarce and should not be mistaken for the “normal” edition, which looks the same but is not signed and limited.

Year 1804: Volume the First: (January to April, 1804) XII, 654 pages including Index / Volume the Second: (May to August, 1804) VIII, 639 pages including Index / Volume the Third: (September to December, 1804) VIII, 628 pages including Index // Year 1805: Volume the Fourth [Titlepage missing] (January to June, 1805): VII, 733 pages including Index / Volume the Fifth (July to December, 1805): VII, 706 pages including Index. Original Hardcover with new spinelabels. All Volumes in collector’s Mylar. Very good condition with only minor signs of wear. Provenance: From the library of Richard Meade (Ballymartle), with his Exlibris / Bookplate to pastedown. Minor browning only. Titlepage of Volume four missing, otherwise complete and the interior in excellent condition. A very rare find, this is one of the more elusive periodicals of the early 19th century, printed just after the Act of Union in 1800 was established and printed by english printer Luke Hansard for publishers and printers in London, Dublin and Cork.

[Second Edition with 11 Illustrations and 2 Maps]. Dublin / London, S.B.Oldham / Seeley’s Fleet Street, no year (c.1850). Quarto (22 cm wide x 28 cm high). Pagination: Halftitle (stating: “Tourist Guide”), Frontispiece, Engraved Titlepage, Titlepage (Decorative in Two colours and two Fonts), “A Plan of Dublin in 1610”, IX, “Dublin – Engraved for The General Post Office Directory”, 24 pages interspersed with an additional eight (8) steelengravings of County Wicklow and surroundings. Original, very decorative cloth with gilt lettering and ornament to front and rear boards. New spine furnished in the 19th century. Corners bumped, pastedown a little rough but interior excellent with all engravings and especially the maps in very good condition. Extremely rare publication !

First and only edition. Tokyo, Ohashido, no. year [c.1880]. Octavo. 20 pages plus rear cover [Illustrated Cover plus 19 illustrated pages including illustrated pastedown]. Illustrated cover with an Edo-period hunting-scene in ukiyo-e style. The booklet itself illustrated with polychrome woodblock-illustrations in colour, showing 51 animal species. Illustrated softcover. Very good condition with only minor signs of wear and some fraying to the outer borders. One corner with paper-loss. A very, very rare publication, dated in ink by its previous owner “Brighton, 1881”.

Niccolo Zoppino and Vincenzo di Paolo, [1521]. Small Octavo (15.5x11cm). D1-4 (disbound) and E1-O8 (84 leaves) – and therefore lacking entirely the first 3 gatherings, half the fourth and everything after O8. This represents about two thirds of the book as published, which contained 128 leaves. Hardcover / Bound in modern vellum with the armorial bookplate of ‘William Bliss’ and blanks preceding the text amounting to the first 4 gatherings and afterwards. D1-4 are laid in and heavily worn with traces of an early inscription on the first leaf; the bound gatherings are in good to very good condition, a little staining. Overall 116 of the book’s 158 wood cuts are present, none of them the double-page city views. Comparison with other examples of this book suggests that this is one of the editions published by Zoppino in Venice between 1518 and 1538 all of which survive in tiny numbers.

Very good condition with only minor signs of wear. Only very minor signs of ocassional foxing.

Es handelt sich hier wahrscheinlich um einen Vorlaeufer des hektographierten Typoskripts “Marx, die klassische Nationalökonomie und das Problem der Dynamik” (New York: Institut für Sozialforschung, 1941).

8238. Hickin, Norman / [Naylor, Verney].

Original, Irish Butterfly – Specimen – Collection of entomologist and naturalist, Norman Hickin. 70 boxes with Butterfly – Specimen from the irish countryside in Dromreagh (Durrus, West Cork, Ireland), Ballycommane, Glengarriff, and wider surroundings. Many boxes labelled. The collection was established in the outgoing 1970s and early 1980s and gives an excellent view into the specimens still common at that time in Ireland and its unspoiled, non-industrial countryside. Norman Hickin subsequently published a Field Guide on Butterflies in Ireland (1992), clearly based on the specimens collected here.

Hardcover / Original 18th-century leather with gilt lettering and labels on spine. Interior of this set with all maps and illustrations in excellent, very clean condition. The boards of the bindings with abrasions and some bumping but overall very firm. Some stronger peeling of the leather on board of Volume I, Only three pages with minor tears. The large map of Northern Africa (Palestine, Egypt and Libya) with a minor tear. The stunning maps and plates in timeless beauty. Highly underestimated work, in the shadow of Gibbon but with meticulous detail in presenting the geographical impact of the Roman Conquest. Original, 18th century italian manuscript on how to build a vertical clock with sound: “Come si Dissegni in practica un Orologio Verticale Italiano a suonodella Campana secondo le regole del Scanavacca” [Translates: “How to Draw an Italian Vertical Clock with the sound of the Bell in practice according to the rules of [Bartologmeo] Scanavacca”].

Italy, c.1750. A4. 22 pages with text, diagrams or drawings (partly in colour). Original Softcover Folder with original manuscript papers and drawings inside. Majority of the pages with damages and some with loss of text to outer margins. Extremely rare and interesting manuscript, also dealing with “Orologi a Sole Guili”.
