Pádraig Ó Cruadhlaoich (c.1861–1949) was a noted Irish-language poet, writer, and storyteller from Ballyvourney, Co. Cork, often known by the pen name “Gaedheal na nGaedheal”. A tailor by trade, he was a key figure in preserving local oral traditions and published work like Cuimhne Sean-Leinbh.
Background: Born in Muileann Bhaile Bhuirne (Ballyvourney Mill) around 1861 to Diarmuid, a tailor and poet from Kilnamartery.
Literary Work: He was a prominent poet and author whose work, including Cuimhne Sean-Leinbh (1946), preserved the dialect and stories of West Cork.
The Doegen Records: Recorded for the Doegen Records project in the 1930s, preserving his voice and regional Irish, which can be explored on the Doegen Records Web Project site.
Bardic Heritage: He was one of the founding members of the Dáimh Scoil (bardic school) in Co. Cork, celebrating regional poetry, as discussed on echolive.ie.
