Interessante Sammlung von originalen Briefen des Österreichischen Autors Karl Rössing and den künstlerischer Leiter der Bauerschen Gießerei, Dr. Konrad Bauer. Die detaillierten Briefe geben Aufschluss zur Entstehungsgeschichte der Publikation “Bilder zur Odyssee”, welche im Jahr 1955 in Frankfurt herausgegeben wurde. Karl Rössing spricht mit Bauer zum Thema Korrekturen im Satz, Einbanddecken, Mäander, Papierauswahl, Tondruck, Einbandgestaltung, Autorenexemplaren, Ausstellung in Braunschweig, Rezensionsverweigerung von Benno Reiffenberg, Verwendung des Buchs als Geschenk an den Bundespraesidenten (damals Theodor Heuss), “ganz einfach deshalb weil er ein fuer Kunstdinge aufgeschlossener Mensch ist”, etc. etc. Der Sammlung liegt eine originale Tuschzeichnung über Bleistift, sowie ein Probedruck des Titelholzstichs bei. Pagination: Volume I: Portrait-Frontispiece showing Henry Stephens, XVI, 550 pages with three Engravings in Steel and 268 Wood-Engravings within the Text / Volume II: XI, 654 pages with 14 Engravings on Steel and 288 Wood-Engravings within the Text. As an Appendix to Volume II: With 12 pages of a List of Works on Agricultural and Rural Affairs published by William Blackwood & Sons. Hardcover / Original, decorative half-leather with gilt lettering and ornament on spine and board. Binding of Volume I a bit shaky and with some damages to the spines. But the bookblock both very clean and with the stunning illustrations complete. Volume II firm and intact. This particular Third Edition is a great example of 19th century farming-history documentation. The popularity of this work is the reason why each edition improved over time. The Third Edition is the pinnacle of the publication with stunning steel-engravings and please pay attention to the particularly smart way of illustrating sowing and harvesting techniques by using black-and-white firguartive illustation of farm-hands, farmers and planters (Pitato-Planting etc.).

Collection of 45 manuscript postcards, signed and sent by Sir Basil Liddell Hart’s second wife Kathleen Liddell Hart to Adrian Liddell Hart. 32 of the postcards were sent by Kathleen from trips she undertook with Basil throughout the world, reporting to Sir Basil’s son Adrian from their experiences at conferences, meetings with governments, exhausting visits to war cemeteries etc. etc. A lot of the postcards very detailed with a good insight into Basil Liddell Hart’s routines (″Basil is sweating over two articles” / “At the moment he is seeing Monnel to discuss the Schumann Plan” / etc. ). The remaining 13 postcards were all written after Sir Basil Liddel Hart’s death and for example deal with the sale of the estate: John Cooper telling me that the N.P.G. paid 9500 Sterling for the picture. He wants more information on Hein and Basil. Wonder how much our Kennington’s are worth ? /

[Calder’s Stabiles “Three Bollards” from 1970 look like possible inspirations for Heptapods “Abbott and Costello” in Denis Villeneuve’s Film “Arrival”].

(In this edition the Text was paginated including the covers until page 26, with covers and front pastedown as well as rear paste-down and rear cover not paginated. Clearly; by the early 1970s, Aimé and Marguerite Maeght must have realized the lithographic covers were part of the appeal for collectors and they followed suit with the same pagination book-publications were paginated with this standard (first page after title is paginated as “3”). This Volume also includes a large section of black-and-white-photographs of Sculpture by Calder. Original, illustrated softcover / brochure. Lower spine with minor damage. Slightly foxed in some locations only. Overall Excellent condition with only minor signs of wear. All Lithographs in excellent condition.
