Collection of eight publications by and about Agnes Mary Clerke plus one autographed / signed manuscript-letter by Agnes Clerke [The letter answers the request of a fellow german Astronomer who complimented her on her History of Astronomy and asked for her permission to translate her latest work). The recipient is possibly german astronomer R.Engelmann who wrote about Nebula. The letter dates from 1891 and is written in perfect german (Agnes Clerke was known to have written reviews and letters in French, German, Greek and Italian). Recently professionally repaired binding with new endpapers but also the original endpapers retained and the original Exlibris mounted to pastedown. Excellent condition after restauration. Ex-Libris (dated 1915) of sporting specialist Hugh McCausland on front endpaper. A lovely late-nineteenth century copy of Dickens’ classic novel. Manuscript entry in ink by McCausland: “Some of the illustrations in this book are probably reproductions of those by Phiz in the 1st edition”. An important, society-critical Dickens Novel, still highly relevant.

Original, beautifully illustrated Hardcover Leporello / Accordion / Concertina – tourist publication with blindstamped emblemata “Eureka” to the rear board. Excellent condition with only minor signs of external wear for the later edition. The Leporellos both in unusually, excellent condition. No fraying to the folds of the Leporellos. Binding of the 1889 edition is poorer, The Leporello and the booklet of this version are completely detached. A few tears and damages between the folds. Both interior of booklets are very clean. Overall very good condition and all illustrations are superfresh! Extremely scarce.

Discusses Virginity (and what it is), How Virginity may be lost, How a woman should order herself in order to conception, [″A woman that would conceive should observe that she does not use the act of coition too often; for gatiety gluts the womb and renders it unfit for office (!) – There are two things that demonstrate this: i.e., that common whores (who often use copulation) have never, or rarely, any children: for the grass seldom grows in a path that is commonly trodden in. The other is, that women, whose husbands have been long absent, do, after copulation with them again, conceive very quickly” / “Women ought to take great care that their imagination be pure and dear, that their child may be well formed”].
