At the same time I wish to prove to my country-people that the Gaelic part of our national inheritance owes something to the racial admixtures which our country has seen. That, in fact, not only the Gaelic and old Irish but the new Irish elements are represented in the national mentality and characteristics; and that apart from whatever now be said to be working towards that end, we are a nation and a strongly marked one.”
