Richard James Patrick Mecredy (May 1861–26 April 1924) was an Irish bicycle racer, journalist and writer.
A charming, if somewhat condescending, road book detailing an Ireland before independence. “Intercourse with the peasantry will be found interesting and amusing. Nothing can exceed their civility and courtesy…. There is little use questioning them as to distance, however. They are nearly always wrong…. The country people are rather stupid about getting out of one’s way, and live stock on the road are a frequent source of danger, especially sheep, donkleys and Kerry cows.”
