″The Osaka Woodcuts” maps the expansion of the exhalted Osaka woodcuts, rooting in Osaka and Edo (Tokyo today) during 19th Century Japan, blossoming into Kabuki and Joruri theatres and then splashing onto painters and printers papers. Edo modern-day Tokyo and Osaka were two of the most important centers of woodcut production. Osaka was renowned for its theatres, actors and plays, and a market for colored woodcuts that depicted popular actors and familiar Kabuki theater scenes flourished in the 19th century.
