Tennent, The Story of the Guns.

Tennent, Sir J. Emerson.

The Story of the Guns.

First Edition. London, Longman, Green, Longman, Roberts & Green, 1864. 8°. XXII, 364 pages with 33 illustrations. Original Hardcover (green cloth with gilt lettering on spine). Good + condition with stronger signs of external wear (some staining). The binding is still firm and strong but the first five and the last 4 pages show some waterstaining. This copy would have not made it into our catalogue if Ray Riling would not recommend it and it would not be extremely scarce and rare due to the inscription of the author to Sir Henry Josias Stracey, 5th Baronet and British 19th century Conservative Politician (portrayed in Vanity Fair magazine in 1875).

[Ray Riling’s Bibliography “Guns and Shooting” – No. 818: “In three parts: I. The Rifled Musket – II. Rifled Ordnance – III. The Iron Navy.
Particularly notable for data on the development and approval of the Whitworth rifling system. Considerable information on the race between armor and armor-piercing projectiles.”]
