From the Editor’s preface: “Music is the child of the light and the darkness” / “In a most especial way music has been the guardian angel of the Irish race. It watched over their infancy and earliest developments – educating, elevating and refining them – and it has followed their exiled children to the furthermost parts of the earth, uniting the scattered nation in the bond of patriotic love. To strengthen this bond is the duty of Irish musicians; and when the trumpet-notes of Liberty shall sound at last, God alone shall tell what place Music has played in the Great Scheme”.
