The Oresteia, written by Aeschylus, consists of three plays which deal with the repercussions of the Trojan War. This translation, by the eminent English poet Ted Hughes, was commisioned by the National Theatre in London where they were first performed in 1999. The language here is powerful and dramatic and these versions, completed in the last year of Hughes’ life, are moving and emotionally charged.
