A re-examination of the reasons as to the defeat of the Germans on the Russian front. It asserts that the defeat was as much due to the preperation and planning of the Russians, hitherto unresearched and ignored, prior to the German invasion as it was to mistakes and exhaustion of the latter and the Russian winter as previously accepted.
Dr. Bryan Fugate received his doctorate in Soviet and German military history from the University of Texas, Austin. He is the author of Operation Barbarossa.
Col. Lev Dvoretsky retired from the Red Army in 1982, received his doctorate in journalism from the University of Moscow and is currently the Director of Military-Historical and Military-Economic publications of the Russian-American joint venture, Amscort International. (from rear flap)
