″For more than a decade the Schull Field Club, later to be named the Mizen Archaeological and Historical Society, has been active in promoting an interest in our archaeological and historical heritage. We set ourselves goals from the beginning. Our main aim was to foster an awareness of our heritage, and to engender a regard for the surviving relics of our pre-historic, early christian and medieval past. Arising out of that we set ourselves certain objectives. First was the conservation of the east gable of Kilmoe church which was in danger of collapse…Our current programme involves the study and survey of the graveyards on the peninsula…The fact that this issue includes articles on Archaeology, History Geology and the Environment reflects our desire to tell the story of Uibh Eachach in tis totality. The geology, the climate, flora and fauna, as much as the archaeology and history bequeathed by our ancestors, formed this place we call West Cork. We would hope to pass it on to posterity.” (from Editorial).
