″An article relating to olden days in Newcestown was written by me some years ago. This article was published in the well known commercial West Cork paper ‘The Southern Star’. It was warmly acclaimed by the local populace, and indeed far beyond Newcestown, as I had congratulatory mail from Irish exiles abroad. When home in recent times, I have been requested to write a book on those past days in the dea old village and parish. I have decided to do this, and strive to record some of the events and environment of the folk who have dwelt in ‘Sweet Auburn’.” (from Introduction)
