″Perched proudly on a bluff above the mouth of the River Don, the clubhouse of the Royal Aberdeen golfers commands a magnificent prospect of rolling fairways, towering dunes and huge everchanging skies above the links and the North Sea. // This is the story of a club which was founded in 1780 as the Society of Golfers at Aberdeen and metamorphosed in to The Aberdeen Golf Club in 1815 on the eve of the Battle of Waterloo and which became Royal Aberdeen Golf Club in 1903 on the authority of King Edward VII. // Starting life on the Aberdeen Town Links the Club found a perfect home of its own in 1888 on the Links of Balgownie on the other side of the River Don. The book tells of the early days on the Town Links and the events which led the Club to cross the river. It then deals in more dteail with life at Balgownie and the creation of the majestic Championship Course and its sturdy little neighbour, the Silverburn, both shaped by men with foresight and flair. // We read too about the Balgownie personalities, the golfers and the characters who evoke admiration and amusement, not always at the same time. Nor is the part of the professional golfer in the Balgonie story over looked. // Like the city of Aberdeen, the Royal Aberdeen golfers have faced many a challenge and have become masters of surviving, adapting and prospering.
