Interior in very good condition besides some pages and illustrations being a little dusty. Few illustrations with faded dampstain. Rare and early publication for the tourist in 19th century Ireland. With name of prewoner in ink on titlepage: “Robert Morrison, Shanakiel, Cork”.

Endpapers as well as first and last pages a little dusty and with peripheral fraying. Interior clean besides some foxing. Includes a number of stunning portraits and romantic illustrations of Ireland. One illustration (St.Patrick) slightly torn. Name of two pre-owners on titlepage. Of utmost rarity. Already in the first chapter, Haliburton uses the technique of literary fiction in order to speak about the ability to travel everywhere (in mid 19th century)….″The Grand Tour now means a voyage round the Globe…” / Haliburton, known to have been “eager to promote immigration to the colonies of British North America” tries to entice to Travel. The Chapter “An Evening in Cork” talks about the narrator to “accompany my old college friend Cary to Monkstown in Ireland…..unlike my gruff and inhospitable countrymen, I advise you, when at Cork, to remain there, till you have ‘done’ the city and its environs and then to sail down the River…”.

A very rare and significant publication.

In which Mr.Carte’s imperfect Account of that Affair, and his Use of the MS. Memoirs of the Pope’s Nuncio Rinuccini, are impartially considered. The whole drawn up from the Best Authorities, Printed and Manuscript. The Second Edition; to which is added an Appendix, containing several Letters of the King to the Earl of Glamorgan, from the Originals in the Harleian Library of Manuscripts.
