With 22 (of 24) handcoloured illustrations by caricaturist Thomas Rowlandson. Hardcover / Original half leather with original spine-labels and ornaments. Both Volumes with some rubbing but both in firm, original condition. Interior of Volume I with some mild foxing and fingerstaining only but all plates excellent. Interior of Volume II with a tear and loss of paper to the front free endpaper, some mild foxing, one plate and one textpage (page 11) slightly detached and with fraying). Minor wormholedamage to rear board (neglectable). Overall these two Volumes are in very good condition !

Of the series of 28 Volumes of the “New Writing ″ Series, only three with stronger signs of wear and in poorer condition. All others in very good condition with only minor signs of wear. Lehmann’s personal copy of Sean O’Faolain’s Autobiography with the original dustjacket in poor condition but the Volume itself very good.

19th century original british Passport for “Mr.John Henry H. V. Lane (British Subject) travelling on the continent”, signed in July of 1886 by later prime minister Archibald Philip, Earl of Roseberry, then Foreign Secretary under Gladstone during his brief third ministry.

Some of the maps with visible reapirs but complete. Very good condition with only minor signs of wear. This being the so-called “Best Edition”.

[4], 174 pages with three further titlepages after page33 (″Aede Christi”), after page 135 (″Epistolae Nonnullae”), after page 151 (″Alumnorum Versiculi”) and after page 161 (″Lector Candide Coronidis”). Hardcover / Modern half-leather with gilt lettering and spinelable. Bound to style of the 17th century by an english masterbindery, which made sure to preserve the original endpapers and pastedowns. An excellent restoration with preserved patina of this scarce work. The titlepage with a professional repair. Although no sign of it, this book came from the library of Daniel Conner (Manch House). Name of another former owner to pastedown: “Thomas Davis – his book , October 21, 1790”. Extremely rare !

Hardcover / Original 19th century full-leather with gilt lettering and ornament to spine. Some of the original leather – spine detaching. The bindings firm and overall in very good condition with only minor signs of wear. Exlibris of E.H.Townsend [Edward Hume Townsend (1803 – 1880) and the manuscript-name in ink, of his daughter Henrietta Murray Townsend (died 1869) inside the cover of all four Volumes. Edward Townsend was educated in Clonakilty and later worked for the East India Company. There is plenty of information on the interesting life of Edward and his daughter Henrietta available within “The Townsend Family Records” [online].

Hardcover / Original publishers quarter morocco with gilt lettering on spine and Emblemata on cover. Top edge gilt. Only some faint signs of dampstain to the outer margins of the illustrations. Otherwise in splendid condition with only minor signs of external wear. Presentation copy from Master Ernest Woodhame to R. Graham Carritt on the occasion of his admission to the Livery of the Company in June 1927. With a bookplate of Grocer’s Hall to the front pastedown.
