Small-Octavo (11.5 cm x 17.5 cm). 303, 570 pages plus a Hand-coloured “Map of General Dumourier’s Campaign on the Meuse” (showing the area between Metz and Reims as well as Sedan and Nancy). Hardcover / Modern half-leather bound to the style of the 18th-century with spinelabels. Both Volumes in protective Mylar and now housed in a bespoke Solander Box. Bookplate / Exlibris of Richard Meade of Ballymartle attached to pastedown of Volume I. Excellent condition !

12. Ligon, Richard.

A True and Exact History of the Island of Barbadoes [sic] / [Barbados]. Illustrated with a Map of the Island [missing], as also the Principal Trees and Plants there, set forth in their due Proportions and Shapes, drawn out by their several and respective Scales. Together with the Ingenio that makes the Sugar, with the Plots of the several Houses, Rooms, and other places, that are used in the whole process of Sugar-making; viz. the Grinding-house, Still-house, and Furnaces; All cut in Copper.

[Second Edition]. London, Printed, and are to be sold by Peter Parker, at his Shop at the Leg and Star over against the Royal Exchange, and Thomas Guy at the corner Shop of Little Lumbard-street and Cornhill, 1673. Small-Folio (19 cm x 29 cm). [II], 122 pages plus an unnumbered Index-page (bound, according to instructions for the bookbinder after page 84), lacking the Fold-out-Map of Barbados but including all six illustrations of Plants, as well as the three diagrams of Houses and Production-Rooms for Sugar. 19th-century Hardcover (half-leather with gilt lettering on spine). Condition of Binding: Very good condition with only minor signs of wear to the binding / Condition of bookblock: Original, front free endpaper was preserved and bound in. Rear endpaper missing. The original endpaper includes two historical ownership-signatures in ink (c.17th or early 18th century) as well as several annotations in ink and pencil. The previous owners seem to have been one Richard Gardner and there is an additional notation verso which reads: “E[x] Libris Richmondi Garnays [or Garneys]”. Some ink-annotations or corrections throughout the book. Signs of old bookworm – damage and very few abrasions due to fire-sparks (few pages effected only). Some plates with professional repairs, some tears. Some professional paper-repairs and re-enforcements to title-page and Content-Page. All the described flaws sound worse than they really appear. All plant-plates in strong impresion. A scarce publication ! From the library of Rev. William Andrew Lamb, Kilcoleman Park, County Cork.

Pagination: Halftitle (stating: “Tourist Guide”), Frontispiece, Engraved Titlepage, Titlepage (Decorative in Two colours and two Fonts), “A Plan of Dublin in 1610”, IX, “Dublin – Engraved for The General Post Office Directory”, 24 pages interspersed with an additional eight (8) steelengravings of County Wicklow and surroundings. Original, very decorative cloth with gilt lettering and ornament to front and rear boards. New spine furnished in the 19th century. Corners bumped, pastedown a little rough but interior excellent with all engravings and especially the maps in very good condition. Extremely rare publication !

First Edition. Aberdeen, Printed for Isaac Forsyth, Bookseller, Elgin, 1798. Octavo (14 cm x 21,5 cm). Folded, hand-coloured Frontispiece-Map by William Millar, Frotispiece-Engraving of the “Elgin Cathedral” , VIII, 353 pages. Original Hardcover / Original 18th or early 19th century leather with original spinelabel. The large, hand-coloured Map with a minor tear only. Corners slightly bumped. Spine slightly starting but overall in excellent condition with some minor signs of wear only. Interesting Provenance and signed manuscript dedication by the Cartographer and Mapmaker William Millar: From the library of Aberdeen Highlander, Major Hugh Houstoun, with a dedication: “April 27th, 1798 – To Major Hugh Houstoun – from his Much obliged and Humble Servant William Millar”.

Hardcover / Publisher’s original buckram with gilt lettering on spine and original dustjackets in protective collector’s Mylar. Deckled fore- and tail-edges. Coloured top edges. Very good condition with only minor signs of external wear. Dustjackets slightly stained and price-clipped. Interior is bright and clean. Patrick Leigh Fermor’s personal copy with his name in ink on the endpaper of Volume II: “Patrick Leigh Fermor. London, July 1945.”. Leigh Fermor obviously rewarded himself with the purchase of Doughty’s masterpiece directly after World War Two. Stunning item, manifesting Doughty’s heavy influence on Patrick Leigh Fermor’s Travel writing. The set includes also three first editions in original dustjackets, of Patrick Leigh Fermor’s famous Travel writings: A Time of Gifts, Between the Woods and the Water [SIGNED], The Broken Road (with the second book, “Between the Woods and the Water” signed by Patrick Leigh Fermor.

Hardcover / Recently rebacked original 19th-century leather with the new spines bound to style with gilt lettering and ornament. Original boards preserved. Beautifully restored set in firm and excellent condition. Page VII of Volume One loosened. The maps and engravings in unusually excellent condition. Name of historical preowner Richard Meade in ink on titlepages. Rare in this very amazing restored condition.

The Trinidad Portfolio – Sixteen Pictures (Original Photographs / Photogravures on heavy paper, showing Trinidad Carnival, Trinidad Nature, Port-of-Spain-Harbour, The Queen’s Park Hotel, People of Trinidad (East Indian Silversmith), Teteron Bay, Santa Cruz Valley, Macqueripe Bay, Mardi Gras Carnival etc.) – The sixteen Photographs are all placed in the original Folder, titled: “Trinidad – British West Indies” and with the blindstamped aluminium-seal “″Miscerique probat populos et fœdera jungi” [which translated as “He approves of the mingling of peoples and their being joined together by treaties”].

Trinidad, The Tourist and Exhibitions Board of Trinidad and Tobago [Printed in England], no year (c.1945-1950). 23 cm wide x 31 cm high. 16 original photogravures inside the original Folder, issued by the Tourist and Exhibitions Board of Trinidad and Tobago. The 16 Photographs measure: 22.7 cm x 30.3 cm (some are oblong-formats some in portrait-format). Softcover / Original Folder. Very good condition with only minor signs of external wear. The aluminium – seal slightly bent. Interior and photographs in absolutely excellent condition. Extremely scarce !

19. di Poggibonsi, Niccolo / [Noe Bianchi; Joannes Cola; Piero Ciza].

Viaggio da Venetia al Santa Sepolcro & Al Monte Synai.

Niccolo Zoppino and Vincenzo di Paolo, [1521]. Small Octavo (15.5x11cm). D1-4 (disbound) and E1-O8 (84 leaves) – and therefore lacking entirely the first 3 gatherings, half the fourth and everything after O8. This represents about two thirds of the book as published, which contained 128 leaves. Hardcover / Bound in modern vellum with the armorial bookplate of ‘William Bliss’ and blanks preceding the text amounting to the first 4 gatherings and afterwards. D1-4 are laid in and heavily worn with traces of an early inscription on the first leaf; the bound gatherings are in good to very good condition, a little staining. Overall 116 of the book’s 158 wood cuts are present, none of them the double-page city views. Comparison with other examples of this book suggests that this is one of the editions published by Zoppino in Venice between 1518 and 1538 all of which survive in tiny numbers.
