Front endpapers carry inked inscription ‘Robb Art Prize Senior Section, James Nares, Lent 1965.’

Sir Isaac Butt’s personal copy [with Trinity College Dublin-Reference on his armorial bookplate] of the famous Report of the Select Committee into the case of Daniel O’Connell’s motion against Judge Cusack-Smith upon him feeling offended by the Judge. The title is: “Charges of Baron Smith [Sir William Cusack-Smith, 2nd Baronet] also Addresses, Presented to him; and his Answers; Together with a Report of the Two Debates in the House of Commons, upon his Case; and An Appendix”.

Bookplate / ExLibris of Sir Isaac Butt to pastedown and the name of Henry Longfield Conner above it (while the book came from the library of Sir Isaac Butt, it subsequently ended up in the library of Henry Longfield Conner, Manch). Very good condition with only minor signs of wear.

Duodecimo (9,8 cm x 14,5 cm). 317 unnumbered pages (collated complete). 18th century Hardcover (full leather with gilted spinelabel ‘Overbury’). The binding professionally repaired. 18th century endpaper with handwritten notes in ink. Manuscript exlibris ‘Paul Exner ex libris 939’. Several contemporary ownership signatures within the book (for example Henry Grier, 12th of Apryll 1687). Titlepage professionally repaired. Wonderful example of this rare book.

One of the previous owners has written his initials “GWH” in red ink verso the titlepage. Pastedown with armorial Bookplate / Exlibris of Scottish statesman, the Right Honorable Patrick Hume, Earl of Marchmont, Viscount of Blasonberry, Lord Polwarth of Polwarth & Lord High Chancellorof Scotland – [Bookplate dated at 1702 – Motto: “Fides Probata Coronat” – “True to the End”]. Very good condition with only minor signs of external wear. Minor lesion/tear to outer margins of page 461. With manuscript entries by the preowner to the top of each page, detailing each page for easier access into sections of countries (Germany, Poland, France, Spain, Britain, Rome, Sweden etc.). This book is rare; but with the excellent provenance from the library of Sir Patrick Hume, an even more important and desirable publication.

Hardcover / Original 19th century half leather with two spine-labels, professionally rebacked and restored by a professional bookbindery. Original pastedowns retained with the original bookbindery-label of C.T.Jefferies & Sons from Bristol. Some of the Cruikshank-plates very good, some with strong foxing (as usual). The text fresh and clean. After the restoration, this Volume is now in excellent condition with some minor signs of wear only.
