Provenance: From the library of Robert Doyne, with his Exlibris – bookplate to the front pastedown of all four volumes. While he died already in 1733 and these books were published in 1774, it is very likely that the bookplates were still applied by his librarian or family / Sir Robert Doyne (1651-1733) was member of the Irish House of Commons for New Ross from 1692 to 1695, and later a distinguished judge who served as Chief Baron of the Irish Exchequer from 1695 to 1703 and Chief Justice of the Irish Common Pleas from 1703 to 1714. In the latter year like all the senior judges in Ireland appointed under Queen Anne he was removed by the new administration; while allegations of corruption were made, the removal seems to have been a simple matter of politics. Although the Irish House of Commons passed a resolution that he had acted corruptly no further action seems to have been taken against him and he lived in peaceful retirement for many years. Binding of the 1889 edition is poorer, The Leporello and the booklet of this version are completely detached. A few tears and damages between the folds. Both interior of booklets are very clean. Overall very good condition and all illustrations are superfresh! Extremely scarce.

This is one of the rare 1940 original Lithographic Reproduction Posters of the 1916 Declaration-Poster of the Provisional Government: Poblacht na hEireann – The Provisional Government of the Irish Republic to the People of Ireland. Signed on behalf of the Provisional Government: Thomas James Clarke, Sean Mac Diarmada, P.H.Pearse, James Connolly, Thomas MacDonagh, Eamonn Ceannt, Joseph Plunkett.

Colour Lithograph with celtic ornamented border and portraits of the signees. Cork, Paramount, [c.1940]. 39.5 cm wide x 53.5 cm high. olding creases, small tear, colours bright and strong. One of the few remaining reproductions made by Paramount in 1940. The artwork of the reproduction is magnificent. Highly collectable and a very beautiful reminder of how meaningful this document was for those who signed it, reflected in the beauty of the original design of this Poster.

Both Volumes with some rubbing but both in firm, original condition. Interior of Volume I with some mild foxing and fingerstaining only but all plates excellent. Interior of Volume II with a tear and loss of paper to the front free endpaper, some mild foxing, one plate and one textpage (page 11) slightly detached and with fraying). Minor wormholedamage to rear board (neglectable). Overall these two Volumes are in very good condition !
