Met driehonderd afbeeldingen in Chromolithographie.” [Groningen], J.B.Wolters, 1886. Actual image of the Groups of Doves on each sheet measures: 32 cm wide x 20 cm. Sheet with the lithographic image measures: 37 cm wide x 28 cm high. Stunning collection of eight original chromolithographs with 46 illustrations of Doves by one of the most eminent european animal painter of the 19th century, photographer, author and book illustrator, Jean Bungartz from Cologne, later Hamburg. Bungartz was responsible for all eight illustrations and the artwork with Bungartz printed signature in the plate and dated 1883 but used for the dutch publication subsequently only in the year 1886.
Jean Bungartz (6 May 1854 – 15 September 1934) was a German animal painter, photographer, author and book illustrator.
Bungartz founded the “Hamburger Verein zur Förderung reiner Hunderassen”, the “Hamburg Society for the promotion of pure-bred Dogs”, in the 1880s. In 1893 he founded the Deutschen Verein für Sanitätshunde, the “German association for Red Cross Dogs”, and led it until 1909.(Wikipedia)
