Japanase courtly poetry of the ninth and tenth centuries. ‘Tales of Ise’ is anonymous and of uncertain date but it is probably safe to assume few of the poems are more recent than 950 and most were written during the ninth century.

With an introduction by Helen Craig McCullough including information on Japanese Court Poetry in the Ninth and Tenth Centuries / China and the Japanese Poetic Tradition.
