The Old New Land (German: Altneuland) is a utopian novel published by Theodor Herzl, the founder of political Zionism, in 1902. It was published six years after Herzl’s political pamphlet, Der Judenstaat (The Jewish State) and expanded on Herzl’s vision for a Jewish return to the Land of Israel, which helped Altneuland become one of Zionism’s establishing texts. Theodor Herzl (2 May 1860 – 3 July 1904) was a Jewish Austro-Hungarian journalist, playwright, political activist, and writer who was the father of modern political Zionism. Herzl formed the Zionist Organization and promoted Jewish immigration to Palestine in an effort to form a Jewish state. Though he died before its establishment, he is known as the father of the State of Israel. (Wikipedia)
