New York, Grosset and Dunlap, n.d. (c.1950). 14 x 21cm. 428 pages, with colour frontispiece and black and white text illustrations. Original clothbound hardcover with illustrated endpapers. Poor condition ! Cloth lost from spine, although the joint is still firm. Some bumping and wear to edges and corners of boards. Internally in good condition, other than text markings to contents page.

Andrew Lang’s Fairy Books are a series of twenty-five collections of true and fictional stories for children, published between 1889 and 1913. The Blue Fairy Book, first published in 1889, was the first volume in the series and so it contains some of the best known tales, taken from a variety of sources. It assembled a wide range of tales, with seven from the Brothers Grimm, five from Madame d’Aulnoy, three from the Arabian Nights, and four Norwegian fairy tales, among other sources.
