Hardcover / Original 18th-century full leather with gilt lettering on spine with replaced and / or repaired spine-labels. Very good condition after the Volumes experienced some repair and new spine-labels from a professional bookbinder. With some signs of external wear and a minor cracks and rubbing to bindings. Bookplate / Exlibris of Richard Meade of Ballymartle to pastedown or loosely inserted to some Volumes (missing in others). Important periodical, also dealing with irish History in detail and often the Volumes include folded vintage maps of the late 18th and early 19th century.

Original / First Edition. Youghal, Thomas Lord, 1784. Small Octavo (9,5 cm x 16 cm). [8], 128 (of 130) pages with pages 122/123 missing. Simple Hardcover of the time (stitched board). Poor condition with some stronger signs of wear. Corners of the textblock were cleanly cut with no or only very few signs of textloss. Some pages loosened. Name of preowner Thomas Ryan of Castlemartyr in ink verso the titlepage.

First Dublin Edition. Dublin, Printed by P.Wogan at The Old Bridge and P.Byrne, College-Green, 1784. Octavo (14 cmx 21 cm). [10], LXIX, 825 [unnumbered] pages. Including a lenghty section mentioning the Irish Subscribers to this Dictionary with name and town. Hardcover / Original 18th century full leather with original, red spine-label with gilt lettering. In protective Mylar. Binding rubbed and with some minor loss to leather. The binding firm and strong and endpapers and pastdeowns intact and NOT cracked ! Small signs of a faded dampstain without any consequence to the very good condition throughout. One page with a tear (Letter G). The unpaginated section was collated as complete.

Original, contemporary Hardcover with manuscript spine-label and marbled-paper-covered-boards, housed in a bespoke made Clamshell Box / Solander-Box. Bindung strong and firm but slightly stained and stronger rubbed. Spine slightly damaged. Front free endpaper missing. Otherwise in very good condition. Although no sign of it, the book came from the library of Richard Meade (Ballymartle). With the rare publication in the rear of the Volume on ‘Whiteboyism’ (The Whiteboys or in Gaeilge: ‘na Buachaillí Bána’), including a rare advertising – sheet by bookseller W. Sleater, glued to the rear pastedown. mentioning three publications: 1. A Letter to Rev. Doctor O’Leary, found on the great Road leading from the City of Cork to Cloughnakilty [Clonakilty] / 2. A Short Refutation of the Arguments contained in Dr. Butler’s Letter to Lord Kenmare / 3. The Present State of the Church of Ireland].

Luxury Reprint of “The Compleat Irish Traveller” [With high quality Reproductions of the 31 original Plates of detailed Maps of County Cork in the 18th century, County Kerry in the 18th century and Waterford in the 18th century, as well as some of the earliest engravings of Irish Towns here for the first time reproduced as beautiful Artworks for framing and housed in a special, handmade Folder. The publication was just recently enlarged with a detailed, Topographical Index (July 2023)]. Complete Title: “The Compleat Irish Traveller, containing A general Description of the most Noted Cities, Towns, Seats, Buildings, Loughs &c. in the Kingdom of Ireland, Interspersed with Observations on the Manners, Customs, Antiquities, Curiosities and Natural History of that Country. VIII, 259 pages plus 13 unnumbered pages of Index and 1 page “Directions to the Book-Binder”. Collation complete with 22 plates of which 20 are large fold-out-engravings. Hardcover / Contemporary 18th century calf with gilt lettering on spine. Stunning Volume, recently restored and rebacked by two english master-binders. Very good+ condition with only minor signs of external wear. After the restoration now a highly-desirable collectable. One of the first sociological studies of conditions within the penal system of England and Ireland compared to other 18th-century practices within European Jails / Gaols. The partly romantic engravings seem sinister when one imagines what inmates and children endured within these settings. Extra Official State Papers. Addressed to The Right Hon. Lord Rawdon and the Other Members of the Two House of Parliament, Associated for the Preservation of the Constitution and Promoting the Prosperity of the British Empire. By a Late Under Secretary of State [William Knox].

London, J.Debrett, 1789. 8°. 49, [1], 14, [2], 174 [2] pages plus Errata-leaf. Original Hardcover. Contemporary Irish calf with gilt lettering and ornament on spine / edges in light green. Neatly rebacked. Gilt ornaments on spine with beautiful original spinelabel. In overall excellent condition. This thoughtful work on Irish politics and history was written by an Irish-born government official, and subsequently owned by two significant figures in Irish history, both of whom have left their mark on it. The first was the spy and co-founder of the United Irishmen, Leonard Macnally who has signed and annotated the text, followed by Warner William Westenra second Baron Rossmore who has left his notes and jottings on the Act of Union.

Hardcover / Modern, recent, very decorative half leather with marbled-paper-covered boards and new endpapers. Gilt lettering on new spine-label. Protective Mylar. Very good condition with only minor signs of wear. The paper with some staining and some annotations made in the mid 19th century in ink. Former owner was one Thomas Teeling from Wigan, with his ownership entry and a comment about a Mr.John Young having dated the book the first day of November, 1841 in Wgan, Lancashire. Longer entry by Mr. John Young in the rear of the book on two endpapers.

Including the original endpapers and the original half-title. Front free endpaper and halftitle with dampstain to lower corner only. Dampstain in lower corner of the titlepage only faintly present. One of the rarest titles of Irish Literature and one of the rarest, early gothic-novels / horror-novels. Absolutely scarce and in excellent condition after the beautiful restoration.
