1. Robison, John.

The Fourth Edition, corrected; to which is added a Postscript. Dublin, Printed by W.Watson and Son, 1798. Large Octavo (14 cm x 21.5 cm). [2], 531 pages (incl. Postscript). Hardcover / Stunning, recent half leather and marbled-paper-covered-boards with gilt lettering and ornament to spine, bound to style of the 18th/19th century. Tear to page 9 (!). Otherwise in unusually excellent condition besides some mild browning (very occasionally only). From the library of Richard Meade (Ballymartle), with his Exlibris / Bookplate to pastedown and name in ink on titlepage. Extremely scarce publication on Illuminati and freemasonry by the first general secretary to the Royal Society of Edinburgh (1783-1798). Extremely rare in any edition; nearly impossible to find in this condition !

3. Ireland – Lotter, Tobias Conrad. (1717 – 1777).

Original hand-coloured copper engraving. Augsburg, Lotter, [c.1760]. Plate Size: 49.5 cm x 57.2 cm. Sheet Size: 55.7 cm x 64.5 cm. Original map. In very good condition with only the faintest traces of browning and paper defects to outer margins.

4. California – Homann, Johann Baptist / Landteck, Zacharias.

Original hand-coloured engraving, with the Cartographer showing California as an Island. Nürnberg, Homann, [c.1735]. Plate Size: 57 cm x 48.5 cm. Sheet Size: 60.5 cm x 51.7 cm. Original map. Very good, actually stunning, condition. Some faint trace of browning to upper corners of sheet. Very minor tears to edges at centre-fold.

5. Pufendorf, Samuel / [Samuel Freiherr von Puffendorf] / [Provenance: Sir Patrick Hume].

An Introduction to the History of the Principal Kingdoms and States of Europe [including a section: “The English conquer Ireland” / “The English Parliament Forces Conquer Ireland” / “Constitution of the “Scotch” [Scottish] Nation”]. Made English from the Original, the High-Dutch – The Third Edition, with Additions. [With an “Epistle Dedicatory” by J. Crull].

London, Printed for M.Gilliflower at the Spread-Eagle in Westminster-Hall and T.Newborough at the Golden Ball in St.Paul’s Church-Yard, 1699. Octavo. Frontispice-Portrait of Pufendorf, [14], 515, [13] pages. Hardcover / Original 18th century full calf with later spinelabel. One of the previous owners has written his initials “GWH” in red ink verso the titlepage. Pastedown with armorial Bookplate / Exlibris of Scottish statesman, the Right Honorable Patrick Hume, Earl of Marchmont, Viscount of Blasonberry, Lord Polwarth of Polwarth & Lord High Chancellorof Scotland – [Bookplate dated at 1702 – Motto: “Fides Probata Coronat” – “True to the End”]. Very good condition with only minor signs of external wear. Minor lesion/tear to outer margins of page 461. With manuscript entries by the preowner to the top of each page, detailing each page for easier access into sections of countries (Germany, Poland, France, Spain, Britain, Rome, Sweden etc.). This book is rare; but with the excellent provenance from the library of Sir Patrick Hume, an even more important and desirable publication.

7. Iberia – Ortelius, Abraham. (1527-1598).

Original hand-coloured engraving. Antwerp, Ortelius, [c.1592]. Plate Size: 49.6 cm x 37.6 cm. Sheet Size: 57.8 cm x 45.6 cm. Original map. Very good condition. Clean and crisp impression. Some slight creases along edges. Very minor, barely visible, tears to lower edges.

Pagination: Volume I: Frontispiece-Portrait of William Robertson, XII, 408, plus 12 unnumbered pages of an Index / Volume II: Frontispiece-Portrait of Charles Vth – Emperor of Germany, 509 pages / Volume III: Frontispiece-Portrait of Francis I – King of France, 471 pages plus 38 unnumbered pages of an Index plus two pages of advertising for two publications by W.Whitestone and Dublin. Hardcover / Original full calf with original spine-labels and gilt lettering on spine. All three Volumes in protective Mylar. Some rubbing and bumping to binding and top of spines. Volume III repaired but intact and firm. Portrait of Charles Vth in Volume II cleanly detached. All three bindings very firm and tight. Frontispieces and Interior in excellent, bright condition. From the library of Richard Meade (Ballymartle), with his name on titlepages of all three Volumes and Exlibris / Bookplate to pastedown.

Browning evident as is a tear near lower centre fold. Some inked underlining to place names. Minor inked numeration in margin at top right corner. Slight crease on verso sheet. Discreet duplicate stamp from library in Poland on reverse.

Circa 3,500 pages. 10 volumes of the C.T.C Gazette total circa 3,300 pages and 244 pages for the single volume of the Cycletouring Hardcover [publisher’s original green cloth] with gilt lettering on either spine or front boards. Some minor staining to a few pages in the volume for 1944. Otherwise in very good condition with only minor signs of external wear. Interiors lightly tanned and clean throughout. All bindings firm and square.
