Èglise de St Germain-L’Auxerrois, À Paris / La France de Nos Jours.

Original hand-coloured lithograph. Paris, F. Sinnett, [1860]. Plate Size: 27.4 cm x 24 cm. Sheet Size: 35 cm x 26.4 cm. Original lithograph. Excellent condition

Beautiful lithographic view of the Church of Saint-Germain-l’Auxerrois in Paris, situated at 2 Place du Louvre. It used to be the parish church for inhabitants of the neighbouring Louvre Palace. Founded in the 7th century, the church was rebuilt many times over several centuries. The existing building was erected mostly in the 15th century, though some portions date to the late 13th century. It now has construction in Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance styles. The artist skillfully captures the church’s most striking exterior feature – the porch, with a rose window.
No. 97 in the ‘La France de nos Jours’ series.
Léon Auguste Asselineau was a Hamburg-born lithographer, painter and designer in France.
