[in our copy, Nott has completed his pseudonym himself and reveals the “Nott”, followed by “M.D”]. – Accompanied also with the Head, Autographe and Seal of the Poet [this Frontispiece is missing in our copy].

Bristol, Printed and Published by J.M.Gutch, no year [1810]. Octavo. IV, 253 pages, followed by an interleaved section at the end of the book, being the original, printed Review by Barron Field from “The Quarterly Review” in 1810 in which Barron Field reviews Nott’s publication of Herrick’s Hesperides, which Nott has inscribed Hardcover / Modern half-leather in style of early 19th-century bindings. Very good condition with only minor signs of wear. Inscribed: “Barron Field – from the editor, Dr. Nott of Bristol – Hotwell [Waters]”. This being the original copy which Dr.John Nott sent to Barron Field for Review. With additional annotations and explanations on page 5, where Nott elaborates on 17th century poet Alexander Brome being the inspiration for the idea of Poem VII “No Loathsomeness in Love” and then Nott wrote down part of the poem by Brome in ink: “I vow I am so far from loving none….” (9 lines). Other annotation in ink (Nott) and pencil (possibly Barron Field) throughout the Volume.

Sheridan Knowles had a chance to be Willan’s successor but decided for a literary and acting career. / “The Hunchback” in excellent condition, also with inscription and signature of Knowles on the titlepage and with the ownership-inscription of Robert Willan Smith. Exquisite collection of six (6) items/original, vintage and personal materials by/of Tom Taylor. The collection includes a 2 1/2 page, signed manuscript letter [MLS] by Tom Taylor to an unknown recipient , discussing a memorial he sent to Robert Browning’s patron, John Kenyon and mentioning former Prime Minister Lord Aberdeen [George Hamilton-Gordon, 4th Earl of Aberdeen]. The collection also includes two vintage 19th century cabinet photographs [Carte de Visite’s] of Tom Taylor, a later edition of Ballads and Songs of Brittany and two beautifully inscribed and signed presentation copies of his major works: 1. The first edition of Ballads of Brittany – London/Cambridge, MacMillan and Co.,1865 with many illustrations by Tissot, Tenniel etc. (This first edition is signed and inscribed by Tom Taylor to Emilia Ventana at Xmas 1864, before the publication of the book commenced) and 2. Tom Taylor’s Historical Dramas. London, Chatto & Windus, 1877. Signed and inscribed by Tom Taylor to Marie de Beauvoisier in March 1879.
