Collection of nine important Emil von Behring – offprints from the Exile-library of Prof. Dr. Hans Sachs, german serologist who had to flee Nazi-germany and died in his Dublin exile in 1945. The collection also includes the original offprint of an obituary for Emil von Behring, published by Hans Sachs in the “Frankfurter Zeitung” in 1917. The rare Offprint by Paul H. Römer (with epilogue by Emil von Behring), is inscribed to Dr.Hans Sachs. The offprints included in this collection are (in order of their publication): 1. Vintage 19th-century Photoalbum with fiftythree (53) Large Albumen Prints of Oxford University and Cambridge University as well as tourist destinations visited in the year 1882 in Scotland and England. The Album shows with visits to Edinburgh, Loch Lomond and its “S.S.Rob Roy – Steamboat with Pier and Ben Venue, Loch Katrine, Callander Bridge and Ben Ledi, The Trossachs, then moves to Hastings and later shows many rare photographs of Cambridge University and Oxford University (including Trinity College and Magdalen College etc. (see complete list below)). Fantastic Album which also shows one magnificent photograph of Stonehenge and one of “The Major Oak” in Sherwood Forest in the year 1885.

Hardcover / Original, late 18th century leather with original spine-label and ornament to boards. Six raised bands; spine starting but still firm and holding. Overall very good condition. Bookplate / Exlibris of Arthur Hofmann to pastedown. Excellent and interesting provenance this being one of the most important publications on Quaker – History and originating from one of the oldest and most influential Quaker – Families in England and Wales.

Hardcover / Original, early 19th century full leather with gilt lettering and date on lower spine [″London, 1802”]. Beautiful, richly ornamented master-bindings. All Volumes in strong, protective collector’s Mylar, which invites the reader/collector to use the work without fear of handling. Armorial Bookplates / ExLibris of Daniel Callaghan, Esquire of Lotabeg (MP for Cork City 1830-1849) to all five pastedowns (Motto: “Fidus et Audax”). Marbled endpapers a little dusty but beautiful. Volume 1, 2 and 5 with some weakening to the spine (slightly cracked), but holding and still firm overall. All plates present. As known and always found with this scarce edition, the original, titled tissue-guards all in place, have created stronger signs of foxing to the plates but in sharp contrast the text in all the five Volumes in bright and clean condition with only occasional faint staining. Endpapers with some minor browning. Very good+ condition overall with some rubbing and minor bumping to the Volumes but really only minor signs of external wear. Extremely sought after publication, not to be confused with the later, much more common Octavo Editions !

A fantastic book with quotes from Yeats and Kafka and many other writers, illustrated by Calder!
