Vita de Sancto Hieronymo [with original manuscript letter by Philip Hofer, later Curator of the Department of Printing and Graphic Arts at Harvard’s Houghton Library, discussing his work at the [Pierpont] Morgan Library and the first product of Cygnet Press, “Vita de Sancto Hieronymo”, which he and George Parker Winship had produced 6 years earlier: “The little book which accompanies this note is one which George Parker Winship and I set by hand and printed a few years ago. It amused us, and, I hope, will amuse you. Of course we would do it differently now – that is always the way !”. The letter, on Hofer’s stationery with his address at 14 East Ninetieth Street, is addressed to one Dr. Collija in Stockholm, on June 25, 1934 and Hofer reminisces about the wonderful time he had there and how he wants to return to Sweden.

Clayton Esleman writes about the impact Rilke’s “Letters to a Young Poet” had on him in 1959. Carolee Schneemann has marked several passages which were important to her, among which is: “for in the sense that what is deeply sick in man today is his hate for his body, in that he has loaded the most energetic word he has for love-making with all the hostility he feels against the act of love. Don’t fuck with me, we say. Keep your fucking hands off. Fuck you. And that word, like a jungle interwoven with all kinds of lianas and vines of tensions, desires, and hate, can’t now possibly convey just its erotic energy – “. / Eshleman also leaves a short biographical note (in print) at the end of this Volume in which he critically describes his consequential status quo: “…..Moved to New York City the summer of 1966…..the bottom fell out: I left my family, moved into a hole in the corner of Greenwich Avenue and Bank Street and entered Reichian Therapy…..Presently living in Sherman Oaks, California, with my wife Caryl – and, as of last week, loaned orgone accumulator sitting expectantly in Garage….– 28 January 1971”.

Interessante Sammlung von originalen Briefen des Österreichischen Autors Karl Rössing and den künstlerischer Leiter der Bauerschen Gießerei, Dr. Konrad Bauer. Die detaillierten Briefe geben Aufschluss zur Entstehungsgeschichte der Publikation “Bilder zur Odyssee”, welche im Jahr 1955 in Frankfurt herausgegeben wurde. Karl Rössing spricht mit Bauer zum Thema Korrekturen im Satz, Einbanddecken, Mäander, Papierauswahl, Tondruck, Einbandgestaltung, Autorenexemplaren, Ausstellung in Braunschweig, Rezensionsverweigerung von Benno Reiffenberg, Verwendung des Buchs als Geschenk an den Bundespraesidenten (damals Theodor Heuss), “ganz einfach deshalb weil er ein fuer Kunstdinge aufgeschlossener Mensch ist”, etc. etc. Der Sammlung liegt eine originale Tuschzeichnung über Bleistift, sowie ein Probedruck des Titelholzstichs bei. Last page of the index torn. Staples rusty. But the overall condition of the catalogue is indeed very good, with only minor signs of wear. Very Rare Historical Catalogue !

Only minor foxing throughout. Some tissue guards loose. With marbled edges and marbled both endpapers and pastedowns. Name of previous owner written in blue ink on free front endpaper “Richard Allen”, also featured within in pencil and dated ‘1832’.
