London, J.Debrett, 1789. 8°. 49, [1], 14, [2], 174 [2] pages plus Errata-leaf. Original Hardcover. Contemporary Irish calf with gilt lettering and ornament on spine / edges in light green. Neatly rebacked. Gilt ornaments on spine with beautiful original spinelabel. In overall excellent condition. This thoughtful work on Irish politics and history was written by an Irish-born government official, and subsequently owned by two significant figures in Irish history, both of whom have left their mark on it. The first was the spy and co-founder of the United Irishmen, Leonard Macnally who has signed and annotated the text, followed by Warner William Westenra second Baron Rossmore who has left his notes and jottings on the Act of Union.

To which is prefixed a copious Introduction to Geography. The whole calculated to explain the Occurences in Modern History. Including 6 pages of “Books, printed for and sold by Peter Wilson, in Dame-Street”. Original Hardcover (full calf on five raised bands with original spinelabel intact). Half a page in chapter “M” torn out. Faint dampstain throughout. Otherwise in very good condition. Binding rubbed and bumped on the corners but absolutely firm and tight. Minor traces of foxing and staining only. Name of preowner in 17th or 18th century ink on endpaper: “Daniel Eugene MacNamara”. Very rare Dublin Edition of this publication with a full-page recommendation of the famous Lexicographer Benjamin Martin.

Original Hardcover / bound in contemporary panelled calf. The book has been sympathetically rebacked to style. Besides a spot of hard green adhesive to the front board in very good condition. The armorial 18th century bookplate of one Dr. Blackett appears on the first pastedown [″A coat of arms divided into three portions, with three stars and three scallop shells throughout. At the helm is the head of an eagle, and elaborate mantling, flowers, and leaves surround the crest. Below is the motto ‘Nous Travailler ons dans L’Esperance’”] / The text of this rare and notoriously underrated book is complete and clean with the three foldout engravings of the cosmos to the rear with only a small archival paper restoration to one of the engravings.
